Alhaji Muttaka Dalhatu, chairman of the PDP in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) alongside his executive council and several ward chairmen. The move was formally announced at the Minister’s residence in Abuja, where they pledged their support to former governor and current APC leader, Bello Muhammad Matawalle.
Alhaji Muttaka explained that the decision to leave PDP was driven by dissatisfaction with the current administration led by Dauda Lawal, particularly regarding security challenges. “The person we voted for to completely arrest the situation has neglected us, focusing instead on undermining Matawalle. We will not be part of that,” he said.
He criticised the PDP-led government for failing to fulfil campaign promises, especially in the area of security, accusing it of attempting to tarnish Matawalle’s reputation ahead of the 2023 elections. “As indigenes of Maradun, we will not participate in destroying the hard-earned reputation of the minister,” he added.
The defection included other notable local PDP figures, such as PDP Secretary Alhaji Sani Ibrahim JB Danbaza, former 2023 PDP State Assembly aspirant Hon. Bashar Muhammad Danbaza, Damaga ward chairman Mallam Umar Attahiru, and PDP Youth leader of Gora Namaye ward, Hon. Zayyanu Yakubu. They also announced plans to receive more PDP executives in Maradun in the near future.
Welcoming them into APC, Matawalle commended their decision and assured them of respect, equal opportunity, and support within the party. He emphasised APC’s commitment to member welfare and expressed gratitude for their pledge to defend him against political attacks. “Your brotherhood and support mean a lot; words cannot fully express my appreciation,” Matawalle said.
