Super Eagles defender, Semi Ajayi has revealed the reason for his absence during coach Jose Peseiro’s post-match team talk after Nigeria’s victory over South Africa in the semi-final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations encounter on Wednesday.
Ajayi was one of the standout players as the Super Eagles defeated the Bafana Bafana 4-2 on penalty shootout after the game ended in a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes.
The West Bromwich Albion player said he was being drug-tested by officials of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) shortly after the game.

While speaking to journalists in the mixed zone after the match, Ajayi said:
“I was not there (Peseiro’s team talk), I was getting tested, so I missed everything,” the Super Eagles centre back noted.
“Amazing. We came here to win. We are one step away from that now.
“As much as we need to enjoy today (Wednesday), we need to fully focus on Sunday because we’ve got one last push to bring the Cup home to Nigeria.”
Nigeria will face Cote d’Ivoire in the final of the AFCON at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium, Ebimpe in Abidjan on Sunday.
