In what many political observers have described as a vote of confidence in key party leaders and government officials, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has inaugurated a select group of stakeholders to serve on the All Progressives Congress APC Strategy, Conflict Resolution and Mobilisation Committee, as preparations gradually begin ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The committee was inaugurated on Wednesday in Lagos and is expected to address internal disputes within the ruling party, strengthen cohesion and develop strategies to consolidate the APC’s political base nationwide.
The high-powered committee is chaired by Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, with former APC National Legal Adviser, Muiz Banire, serving as Member and Secretary. Its membership cuts across governors, members of the Federal Executive Council and other influential figures within the party.
Other members include former Kebbi State Governor, Senator Adamu Aliero; Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq; Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma; as well as Governors Hyacinth Alia of Benue, Umar Namadi of Jigawa, Bassey Otu of Cross River, Abiodun Oyebanji of Ekiti and Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta.
Also appointed to the committee are Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani; Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara; Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola; Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle; and former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.
Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Buni expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for the confidence reposed in the committee members, assuring that the assignment would be handled with dedication, fairness and a strong sense of responsibility.
According to him, the committee will embark on broad consultations and strategic engagements aimed at developing an inclusive, practical and result-driven framework capable of addressing grievances and strengthening internal democracy within the APC.
He noted that special attention would be given to conflict prevention, early resolution mechanisms and fostering a sense of belonging among party members, particularly those who feel aggrieved.
Buni further urged committee members to put the collective interest of the party above personal considerations, stressing that unity and tolerance remain critical to the APC’s long-term stability and electoral success.
President Tinubu had earlier emphasised the need for cohesion within the ruling party during the 15th National Executive Committee meeting of the APC held on December 19 at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja.
The President reminded party leaders that the APC was founded on the ideals of progressive politics, inclusiveness and respect for diverse opinions, warning that intolerance and internal divisions could undermine democratic growth.
“We must continue to be resolute that this democracy must not fail. We must be accommodating and tolerant. That is the only way we can be resilient,” Tinubu had said.
The newly inaugurated committee is expected to play a central role in stabilising the party and positioning it strategically as political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections.
