Nigerian youth groups are organizing a national demonstration to express their dissatisfaction with hunger, insecurity, and a sense of renewed hopelessness two years into President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
Surprisingly, many of the protest leaders are from pro-Tinubu organizations who feel sidelined by the current government.
Pa Benji, the General Overseer of Power Must Change Hands Assembly, has urged the protest leaders to reconsider their actions, warning that a demonstration of this scale may disrupt national activities and push Nigeria back towards undemocratic rule.
The youth-led Citizens Movement claims that the security situation in the country is rapidly deteriorating, with security chiefs failing to address the issue effectively.
They are calling on President Tinubu to immediately dismiss the service chiefs and overhaul the nation’s defense architecture by appointing vibrant, service-ready, and intelligent officers to lead the various armed forces.
The youth leaders believe that recent tragic incidents, such as the deadly attacks on soldiers in Borno state, could have been prevented with a more effective intelligence arm.
They insist that urgent action must be taken to protect the lives of Nigerians and improve the security situation across the country.
