The Youth Assembly of Nigeria has condemned the recent killings in Kwara and Zamfara states, describing the incidents as evidence of worsening insecurity across the country.
In a statement signed by its National Speaker, Famuyibo Oluwasegun, the group expressed concern over what it called recurring attacks on rural communities and security personnel.
According to reports, armed assailants in early February 2026 attacked communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, particularly Woro and Nuku villages, killing several residents, burning homes and displacing families.
Similarly, on 20 February 2026, gunmen were reported to have carried out attacks in parts of Zamfara State, resulting in multiple deaths and the abduction of women and children.
The youth body said the incidents highlight what it described as a “deeply troubling security situation” and called for urgent and decisive action from the Federal Government.
The group also raised concerns over attacks on Nigerian soldiers, stating that continued assaults on both civilians and members of the Armed Forces require stronger security responses.
In its statement, YAN criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over what it described as insufficient proactive measures to prevent further violence. The organisation announced plans to hold a peaceful national demonstration in Abuja under the theme: “Enough of the Killings… It Is Time for the Commander-in-Chief to Take Decisive Action Against Insecurity.”
According to the group, each state chapter has been directed to mobilise 300 members ahead of the planned protest scheduled for Thursday, 27 February 2026. The Board of Trustees of the organisation has endorsed the planned demonstration.
YAN said the protest aims to draw national attention to the frequency of killings and to demand stronger, coordinated strategies to address insecurity.
The organisation maintained that the protection of lives and property remains the primary responsibility of government and called for urgent measures to halt what it described as recurring bloodshed in several parts of the country.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the Presidency regarding the planned protest.
