Here are five rapid facts about the proposed 4th Mainland Bridge in Lagos.
- The 4th Mainland Bridge is set to become Africa’s longest bridge at 38 kilometers, surpassing Egypt’s 20.5km ‘6th October Bridge’ (Lagos only competes with other nations) and is more than three times the length of the 3rd Mainland Bridge.
The new bridge will include 3 toll plazas, 9 interchanges, a 4.5km lagoon bridge, and an environmentally friendly design, among other premium features.
- The project will be a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) financed initiative between the Lagos State government and reputable private companies.
- Its main objective is to connect Lagos Island, specifically Langbasa (Lekki) and Baiyeku (Ikorodu), across the Lagos Lagoon to Itamaga in Ikorodu.
- Construction is scheduled to begin in April of this year and is estimated to cost $2.5 billion.
- The idea was conceived by former Lagos State Governor, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, demonstrating the power of visionary leadership.
