The Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN) has announced plans to stage a peaceful demonstration in the nation’s capital to draw attention to the escalating insecurity across Nigeria. The protest, set for Thursday, 5th March 2026 at 7:00 AM, will take place at Unity Fountain, Abuja.
In a statement issued on Monday, Rt. Hon. Famuyibo Oluwasegun, the National Speaker of YAN, described the current wave of insecurity as “deeply concerning,” citing frequent killings, kidnappings, banditry, and violent attacks affecting communities nationwide. The Assembly stressed that young Nigerians are particularly affected by the ongoing violence, which threatens social stability and economic development.
The demonstration is intended as a patriotic civic engagement, not a confrontation. Participants are expected to maintain peaceful, orderly conduct while advocating for stronger security measures and honoring victims of violence.
“The Youth Assembly of Nigeria considers this situation unacceptable and urges decisive action to safeguard lives and property,” the statement read.
YAN is calling on the Federal Government to implement coordinated security strategies, security agencies to strengthen intelligence-driven operations, and all Nigerian youths and civil society organizations to engage responsibly in the demonstration. The Assembly also requested the support of security agencies to protect participants, emphasizing that peaceful assembly is a constitutional right.
“We are united in our message: enough of the killings. Nigerians deserve safety, peace, and a secure future,” Oluwasegun said. The Assembly affirmed its commitment to continuing democratic engagement with government institutions to ensure the protection of lives remains a national priority.
