A coalition of student groups in the Federal Capital Territory on Monday warned individuals allegedly attempting to incite unrest and disunity to desist or risk strong resistance from Nigerian students.
Speaking at a press briefing held at the Obi Mbieri Resort along Airport Road in Abuja, the spokesperson of the coalition, Comrade Mubarak Aliyu, alleged that one Peterside Amachree, said to be an aide to Mr Matthew Ossas Iduoriyemwem, had been moving from hostel to hostel at the University of Abuja and the College of Education Zuba since last week in an effort to mobilise students for a planned protest targeting senior officials of President Bola Tinubu.
Mubarak urged students across the territory to distance themselves from any planned demonstration, especially at a time when the country is confronting serious security challenges.
“We want to appeal to all students to avoid any plot to draw them into a protest. This is not the time for actions that could worsen the nation’s current security issues,” he said.
The coalition also called on security agencies to monitor and investigate individuals allegedly attempting to create tension on campuses, urging authorities to take appropriate action against those undermining public peace.
Mubarak concluded by declaring that Mr Amachree has been barred by the coalition from entering any campus within the Federal Capital Territory for any reason, warning that students would resist any attempt to disrupt academic environments.
